It swings, slams, gets leaned on, pushed with a foot and knocked by furniture, thousands of times across its life, and IS 2202 tests it accordingly: fifty to a hundred successive slams with no visible damage, twenty five shock blows on each end, a buckling test that allows no more than 5 mm of residual deformation, and an indentation limit of 0.2 mm. Those are not panel tests. Jaipur runs a heavier hospitality door load than almost any city its size. A hotel guest room door is opened, released and allowed to slam by a different person every night, with a closer pulling it shut hard behind them, which is the closest real world match to the IS 2202 slamming test there is: fifty to a hundred successive impacts with no visible damage permitted. Non-coniferous hardwood at the edges and the lock rail, so hinges, locks and closers land in timber that holds a screw rather than in soft filler. This is the part of a door that fails first when it is skimped.
IS 2202 allows no more than 5 mm of residual deformation after the buckling test, and thickness may not vary more than 0.8 mm across the shutter. That is the difference between a door that closes on its latch and one that has to be pushed.
